Bonsai trees and bonsai in general as a hobby has come of age. The types of bonsai trees require skill to cultivate a good-looking bonsai tree. It’s not for the faint-hearted… or the impatient.
And while it is a rewarding pastime, you will still hear many bonsai artists ‘gripe’ about all of the time this hobby requires to grow these miniature surprises.
The reality is that the energy and time that goes into cultivating a beautiful bonsai is something skilled artists really never regret.
Because of the time involved, it’s best to do your due diligence BEFORE you strike out to become a bonsai artist.
In other words… choose your bonsai carefully. Knowing the types of bonsai trees would therefore be a good idea… don’t you think?
Formal upright bonsai style produces the development of a high and straight tree. Theses types of bonsai trees have stems of the tree that stay vertical. The stem stabs on decreasing in diameter from the bottom to the tip.
Informal upright bonsai style has the bottom and top trunk in a line vertical to the soil, yet the growth in between is somewhat slanted.
Full cascade bonsai style looks stylish and portrays the image of a plant developing on the rocky angles of a mountain side. These plants, while cultivated carefully, tends to curve down because of gravity. The tip goes under the roots height. In a complete cascading bonsai, its natural for the top of the plant to go under the root level. There are specialty pots that are specifically designed for the beautiful and unique full cascade style.
Semi cascade bonsai style symbolizes a tree stalk growing parallel toward the water level by swampy areas. At this juncture the bonsai trunk lean downward yet the tip rises just above the bottom of the pot.
Umbrella or Broom bonsai style calls to mind the image of an upturned Japanese broom. This style does well with deciduous trees; it works out great for lots of tropical plants, too. In broom bonsai style trees the bottom of the trunk is in a straight line and the branches cultivate in all directions from on the same point on the stem giving it the figure of an upturned broom.
Slanting bonsai style is a very common style in which in the plant bends to one side. The stem is leaning at an angle of about 45 degree. With these types of bonsai trees, the stem might be in a straight line or bent . Slanting stem plants are pretty ordinary in temperament and they are required to get this form owing to particular survival needs of the plant. One case is that of the slanting tree stem caused because of the plants look for a light source.
