Bonsai is the ancient Japanese art of cultivating trees. It’s thought that the original Bonsai cultivation was invented by the Chinese. However, through the centuries, it was the Japanese that perfected this beautiful art.

Bonsai entails the raising of trees in miniature, and displaying them in ornate, low containers. Bonsai art includes the recounting of a prearranged dwarfed plant in a more idealized figure. You can select to build up to be more multifaceted or keep it very simple in design and shape. Bonsai plants uniquely convey the splendor of nature.

For several years, the Japanese increased the popularity of bonsai trees using native small trees. However, this later changed as the demand exceeded the supply. This caused the Japanese bonsai plant artists to create new means of extending bonsai from other native plants. They made many shapes, creating the illusion of great age.

To create an artful and stunning bonsai plants, the type of tree must be selected very carefully. This is because not all plants do well being cultivated as a bonsai. The idea behind the bonsai tree is to duplicate the appearance of a full grown tree. That means that of the stem, twigs, branches, flowers, leaves, buds, fruits, and roots must be in perfect proportion to the dimension of the plant used.

When you stop to think about what is accomplished, bonsai plants are remarkable.

Obviously, the plants must have tiny leaves. Maple and oak trees respond the best to the art of bonsai. This is because these trees have proportionate leaves. Other species of plants that make wonderful bonsai plants include the pine, spruce, zelkova, as well as pomegranate.

Bonsai formation is an art; so the plants selected must present that same artistic appearance. They must have striking bark; the stalk must convey the chimera of maturity. In a some cases the main stems must be shortened. This highlights the perpendicular line of the stem and also presents the stem with a comparative look.

As you try to convey the manifestation of age, revealing the root’s upper one-third composition of a grown-up bonsai is essential. The branches as well as the overall look of the bonsai tree must demonstrate the art of equilibrium. Skillful bonsai artists actually create the illusion that the bonsai tree is suspended in the air.

Just always remember these two primary things when it comes to the art of bonsai plants:

1. It all starts with the stem. This what recreates the original plant’s authenticity and original appearance.

2. The branches must be in perfect balance with each other.

Master these bonsai skills and you have learned an art for the ages. Get more excellent info here.

Traditional gardeners who are used to growing conventional plants often find that the complexity of bonsai tree care to be mind boggling. All it takes is one look at a masterfully cared for bonsai to appreciate that they are not ‘normal’ plants.

Therefore, extraordinary plants require extraordinary care. Buying a beginner bonsai kits will shorten the learning curve.

Bonsai tree care can be an incredibly rewarding pastime. There is truly something to be said for creating living art.

If you have an imaginative streak and are a frustrated artist… bonsai tree care could be a hobby to nurture that artistic streak as well as the satisfaction that happens naturally from caring for living things.

Truth be told, caring for bonsai trees is really NOT that complicated. But to master any art, obviously there are certain skills and needs that must be addressed.

Here are a few bonsai tree care fun facts to follow:

What kind of bonsai tree is it?

Be conscious of the kind of bonsai you have. Not all bonsai trees are created (or formed) equal. In fact, you will never find two of them to be identical.

A few varieties of bonsai trees do well being grown indoors. However, most of them develop better outside the home. The needs of indoor bonsai have different needs than do outdoor variety. For example, outdoor bonsai cannot be maintained indoors for any length of time. A good rule of of thumb is to keep it inside for no more than 3 days a month. If kept inside longer, the change in heat and humidity will begin to harm the bonsai plant.

Watering needs

Be sure to water it appropriately. Since a bonsai tree is typically small, it means that it’s root system is compact as well. So they generally don’t require the amount of water usually associated with plants of normal size.

This where being certain what kind of bonsai tree you have is important. A few species of bonsai trees need to be watered constantly; others can get by with very little water.

For example: If you water too often, you increase the risk of fungal growth. Conversely, keeping the soil dry and damp could rapidly destroy the plant. Each bonsai tree has it’s own distinctive watering needs.

Re-potting

Re-pot your bonsai trees with extra care. Guessing when this needs to be done will lead to ‘bonsai disaster!’.

Most bonsai trees do not do well if they are not re-potted regularly. Bonsai plants are typically root-pruned; and they are re-potted annually, often in spring. A few species could stay in the same pot for two years… but you must keep close tabs on it if decide to wait this long.

Like any plant, careful maintenance is a necessity for good health and growth. Search for boring limp leaves that are turning brown or yellow. Any spotting on the leaves can be a sign of disease. Look for mites or bugs that may infest your plant.

Like with sick people, keep your bonsai tree away from other plants that are diseased or just plain ‘sick.’ And if you think your bonsai may have an illness, quickly remove any diseased leaves and keep it away from the other plants.

Bonsai plant care really isn’t that complicated. Like mastering ANY skill, practice really ‘does make perfect.’ The more you learn about your bonsai plants and trees, the more skilled you will become.

And these are skills that will last a lifetime as you master the art of bonsai tree care.to sharpen your skills, you could look frontward to having your extremely own good-looking bonsai trees.

Bonsai trees and bonsai in general as a hobby has come of age. The types of bonsai trees require skill to cultivate a good-looking bonsai tree. It’s not for the faint-hearted… or the impatient.

And while it is a rewarding pastime, you will still hear many bonsai artists ‘gripe’ about all of the time this hobby requires to grow these miniature surprises.

The reality is that the energy and time that goes into cultivating a beautiful bonsai is something skilled artists really never regret.

Because of the time involved, it’s best to do your due diligence BEFORE you strike out to become a bonsai artist.

In other words… choose your bonsai carefully. Knowing the types of bonsai trees would therefore be a good idea… don’t you think?

Formal upright bonsai style produces the development of a high and straight tree. Theses types of bonsai trees have stems of the tree that stay vertical. The stem stabs on decreasing in diameter from the bottom to the tip.

Informal upright bonsai style has the bottom and top trunk in a line vertical to the soil, yet the growth in between is somewhat slanted.

Full cascade bonsai style looks stylish and portrays the image of a plant developing on the rocky angles of a mountain side. These plants, while cultivated carefully, tends to curve down because of gravity. The tip goes under the roots height. In a complete cascading bonsai, its natural for the top of the plant to go under the root level. There are specialty pots that are specifically designed for the beautiful and unique full cascade style.

Semi cascade bonsai style symbolizes a tree stalk growing parallel toward the water level by swampy areas. At this juncture the bonsai trunk lean downward yet the tip rises just above the bottom of the pot.

Umbrella or Broom bonsai style calls to mind the image of an upturned Japanese broom. This style does well with deciduous trees; it works out great for lots of tropical plants, too. In broom bonsai style trees the bottom of the trunk is in a straight line and the branches cultivate in all directions from on the same point on the stem giving it the figure of an upturned broom.

Slanting bonsai style is a very common style in which in the plant bends to one side. The stem is leaning at an angle of about 45 degree. With these types of bonsai trees, the stem might be in a straight line or bent . Slanting stem plants are pretty ordinary in temperament and they are required to get this form owing to particular survival needs of the plant. One case is that of the slanting tree stem caused because of the plants look for a light source.

And finally…

Forest bonsai style consists of a set of bonsai plants potted in the manner that provides the feeling of mini forest. They are unusual, beautiful and remarkable to see.

Bonsai trees or bonsai plants are not always simple to care for… truth be told, compared to domestic plants, they need extra care and attention.

Having adequate fertilizer for bonsai plants is critical. As with anything green, it’s very reliant on vitamins and nutrients for growth and health.

Obviously some of the needed nutrients comes from sunlight.

Most wild trees get what they need from their surroundings. Bonsai plants are trapped in their pots. So they depend on you to provide for them. You have to make sure your bonsai plant is sufficiently watered as well as fertilized.

Fertilizer for bonsai (and most other plants) are the source of it’s food. The simplest fertilizers have potassium, nitrogen, and phosphates. However, bonsai plants have some unique needs. Bonsai plants and trees also need iron and, strangely enough, vitamins… specifically B-complex vitamins. Some bonsai cultivators also use… beer. Really.

You can make a watery beer and water blend that helps your bonsai plant acquire the complex vitamins that it needs. Then spray this solution on the leaves. It’s important to do this when the air temperature is no higher than 85 degrees Fahrenheit. If you spray the leaves above this temperature, the stomas of the leaves will close up and the tree would be unable to breathe.

Commercially prepared bonsai fertilizer has all of the nutrients and vitamins your bonsai plants and trees need. Generally, spraying and watering should be done daily… but this is just a rule of thumb. Each plant has it’s unique needs and fertilizing regimen.

Factors can include the time of year, the age of the plant or how long the bonsai plant has been in its present pot.

So you’re a beginner bonsai kits enthusiast.

Well, this is the article for you. We’ll give you some great ideas to on how to choose the best bonsai for you.

You could start your bonsai plant from seeds. In fact, it’s easy to find beginner bonsai kits exactly for this. This involves time, of course, plus making use of methods like splicing, air layering, etc.

However the easiest way for the beginner bonsai cultivator to get started is to simply buy a tree from a bonsai garden store. There are also many online stores that have beginner bonsai kits, too. Personally, I prefer to actually see what I’m going to be buying, so I tend to go to a brick-and-mortar garden for a beginner bonsai kit.

Here are some bonsai kit ideas to consider:

Choose a plant that has healthy looking branches and leaves. AVOID bonsai plants. The leaves must not be stained and the stalk of the tree must appear healthy. Pay close attention to see if the leaves are spotted or if there are signs of pests.

Select a plant that appears mature and in the shape you prefer. Even though you will have to cultivate it to grow in the style you want, you to to begin with the basic type and style you prefer. This will make working with your bonsai plant much easier down the road.

The pot selected for the plant must have at least one drainage opening and the plant must fit closely in the container.

Be sure to test for the soil’s humidity. NEVER buy a plant with muddy soil (it’s been over watered.) This is a sign it may have a fungus or root decay and has received improper bonsai tree care.

Make sure that the bonsai plant or bonsai tree hasn’t bonded to the pot. This would harm the development of it’s roots and make re-potting the plant very hard later on.

One of the major drawbacks of purchasing bonsai plants online is they tend to come and go. They probably have a physical location somewhere… they just stop their online business and support without notice.

Also, many beginner bonsai gardeners like to keep their plant indoors and on ‘exhibit.’ While this is tempting since you’re proud of your new bonsai, put it outside for at least two to three weeks before bringing indoors.

While it is outside, be sure to bring back inside if the weather conditions becomes severe, such as heavy rainfall or high winds.

Take good care of your new bonsai tree. Selecting from the many beginner bonsai kits available will prevent any inconsistency in their care that may result in irreversible damage.

Welcome to the bonsai for beginners article. This info will get you off to a good start. And you probably have tons of questions: What type of plant do I want… do the stay indoors or outside… what supplies do I need… what kind of pot is best… is re-potting different from regular plants… and what the heck is wiring all about?

Without a doubt, bonsai trees need a particular type of care and setting to grow appropriately and stay in good physical shape. When properly cared for, these diminutive plants will outlast their caretakers when properly cared for. They can actually live for hundreds of years!

Without the basic skills mastered, it is unreasonable to expect that bonsai for beginners could keep one alive, let alone maintaining it as art.

Also consider the cost involved. Any ‘real’ bonsai takes at least five years of cultivation. A bonsai like this would cost several hundred dollars. Of course you can find a bonsai plant almost anywhere: malls, garden centers, even grocery stores. These are worthless junk; they are not bonsai. For example: A two year old elm cutting stuck into an oriental-style pot is not a real bonsai.

Be advised that it is the care and training that makes it a bonsai.

Here’s what you must know:

Bonsai’s are really not a houseplant. They are typically outdoor plants. This is because most bonsai plants are temperate climate plants – that means they need a period of dormancy. There are some indoor bonsai trees, but these are usually tropical and subtropical types. And even these species are happiest when kept outside in the summer.

One of the biggest misconceptions about bonsai is that little bonsai do not become big bonsai. They are trained as they grow until they reach the desired size and trunk thickness. Only then are they transferred to bonsai pots.

A bonsai for beginners article like this one teaches you to understand that they grow very slowly once they are moved to the bonsai pot. That’s the whole purpose of the pot – to slow down growth and reduce leaf and twig size. True bonsai plants require careful training to achieve the beautiful shapes most people associate with bonsai.

The training of bonsai is done mostly by manipulating the trunks and branches through pruning and wiring. Anyone can learn how to do this with a few hours of basic instruction from a teacher or by reading books.

This is actually much more than a hobby. It takes dedication, enthusiasm… and a lot of patience. Obviously, advanced skills are sharpened over a long period of time; the more you practice, the more you learn – and the more skillful a bonsai beginner becomes.

Bonsai must be root pruned and re-potted occasionally. The objective is to keep the tree the same size. That being so, they usually go back into the same pot after root pruning. Root pruning is also a training technique; a plant will be invigorated or slowed down by timely pruning. Use only soil that is specially designed for bonsai plants. What makes is soil ‘special’ is that it drains much faster than typical potting soils.

Bonsai must be fertilized regularly with a good soluble fertilizer every two weeks. Bonsai soils are not good at holding the nutrients, so full strength feeding is critical. Use a fertilizer with trace elements such as Miracid or Miracle Grow – at the full strength recommendation.

Improper watering is the most common problem for a bonsai beginner. Plants must be watered thoroughly as they become somewhat dry. They should be watered until they are saturated. In fact, you don’t stop until you will see water pouring from the drain holes. This helps to prevent salt buildup in the soil.

The trick part of watering is figuring out when a plant is slightly dry. If it’s a small bonsai, just lift the pot. A well watered bonsai will be considerably heavier than one that needs water. Over time, you will learn this ‘feel’ very quickly.

You can also push a finger about an inch into the soil. If it’s dry at this level, it needs to be watered. Another method is to put in a chopstick – kind of like a dipstick. Leave it in the soil and pull it out every few days to test the water ‘level’. If the soil has enough water, the stick is going to be damp.

Bonsai plants and bonsai trees are one of the most unique gardening skills you can master. If you are experiencing bonsai for beginners, don’t feel overwhelmed. Take your time, learn and most importantly – PRACTICE the art of bonsai plants.

Are you looking for something different in the art of bonsai plants gardening? Here are some beautiful types of bonsai… with the beginner in mind:

The Bald Cypress, despite its very slow growth, is a very popular bonsai tree, grown for its light, feathery foliage and orange-brown fall color. Cultivation is successful in both northern and continental climates. It is also commonly planted in Europe, Asia and elsewhere with temperate to subtropical climates. It does require climates with hot summers for good growth. When planted in areas with cooler summers, it’s growth is healthy but very slow.

The Okinawa Holly is a beautiful miniature type of bonsai like it’s big brother, the Holly. It produces tiny pink flowers during the spring and summer months. A native to the Northern Hemisphere, the leaves on the Okinawa Holly are small and glossy with serrated edges. Because of its size, hardiness, and unique appearance, this tree is a wonderful choice for bonsai. Beginners will love the easy care and charming look. Typically, the Okinawa Holly will reach about five to six inches tall around the age of four.

The Japanese White Pine is a stunning bonsai. This dense tree grows up to 50-foot tall in the wild. But when it’s trained properly, it becomes a magnificent bonsai. The Japanese White Pine is irregularly shaped. It has a gorgeous spread and a wide but flattened canopy. The needles are twisted and stiff with blue/green tufts on the tips.

As if this weren’t enough, these are followed by tiny orange/red ornamental fruit. The leaves of the Dwarf Pomegranate tree are dark with striking hues of bronze. This tree makes a wonderful choice for bonsai. The Dwarf Pomegranate requires warmer temperatures for the fruit to open.
